Ruggedness Study of Specimen Preparation and Fine-Tuning of Test Methods for IDT-CT and IDT-HT

Project No: 124496

Target Completion Date: June 30, 2025 Pavements

About the project:

The objective of this study is to conduct a ruggedness study on key factors that necessitate stricter control and more comprehensive guidelines during the specimen preparation of mixtures for the indirect tensile cracking test(IDT-CT) and indirect tensile at high temperature (IDT-HT) test. This will result in recommending unified and improved best practices, with a specific focus on specimen preparation, resulting in fine-tuning of the test methods, as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is moving forward with the implementation of the Balanced Mix Design (BMD) concept.
