Title: Round Robin Testing Program for the Indirect Tensile Cracking Test (IDT-CT) at Intermediate Temperature

Abstract: The objective of the interlaboratory study is to determine and develop precision estimates and statements for the cracking tolerance (CT) index, fracture strain tolerance (FST) index, and strength of asphalt mixtures determined by performing the Indirect Tensile Cracking Test (IDT-CT) at intermediate temperature in accordance with ASTM D8225-19. Moreover, the effect of equipment type and loading rate and the impact of specimen fabrication/preparation along with other factors such as test error, single operator variability, and multi-laboratory variability on the CT index, FST index, and strength will be investigated. Four phases will be carried out as part of this effort. Phase I involves the evaluation of specimens fabricated and compacted by a third party laboratory and sent to participant laboratories along with detailed instructions for testing only. Phase II is a mini round robin effort for Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) laboratories using the same process as Phase I. Phase III addresses questions and concerns about the impact of test loading rate and its deviation on the IDT-CT parameters. Phase IV involves the evaluation of specimens fabricated by the participant laboratories from mixtures produced and sent by a third party laboratory along with detailed instructions for specimen fabrication and testing.
