| Abstract: |
This project builds on a previous study designed to address segregation of hot-mix asphalt. It proposes to simulate an application of a special provision for uniformity (developed in the earlier study) to a cross-section of VDOT's 2003/2004 Maintenance Resurfacing Schedules. At completion of testing, the subjective satisfaction with HMA uniformity (absence of segregation) will be contrasted with the objective assessment provide by the proposed provision. At this point, any necessary revisions will be made and the revised quality acceptance scale provided to the Materials and Scheduling & Contracting Divisions for implementation as a Pilot Special Provision for Uniformity. |
