Title: Use of Remote Sensing to Identify Wetlands on Project-Specific Location Studies
Contact:
Project No.: 106482
Target Date: 05/31/2016
Abstract: Wetland identification can be challenging and expensive for state transportation agencies, particularly on projects covering a large geographic area.

Research has shown an opportunity to improve this process by employing newly available remote sensing techniques and GIS datasets.

The purpose of this study is to review existing literature to determine the latest methodologies for wetland identification using remote sensing and how state transportation agencies and other entities – such as the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, U.S. Army Corps of Engineering, Federal Highway Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy and electric utilities – conduct such work using this technology for project-specific locations.
