Title: Privacy and Its Impact on Emerging Technologies in Transportation Safety

Abstract: This study will analyze the evolving and emerging technical, social and political issues concerning privacy relating to transportation safety technologies.

The use of imaging technology, for example, is an evolving application that poses questions regarding the appropriate use, legality, system management, and public and political acceptance.  This project will inventory and define the characteristics that comprise the concept of "privacy" in transportation applications. 

The research team will identify emerging technologies and their potential uses in tranportation, legal issues relating to privacy and the potential advantages, disadvantages, use and misuse of personal data.  The team will also investigate methods to mitigate concerns about intrusions and collecting personal information.
