First Annual Report SHRP C103 Task 4: Rapid Repair Techniques

Abstract: The objective of task four is to develop technically and economically feasible methods of concrete bridge deck protection, rehabilitation, and replacement. The objective of the task will be accomplished through a progression of six subtasks. The subtasks include: State-of-the-Art Review; Data reduction, analysis and comparison of alternatives; Refinement of details for selected installations; Selection of sites and development of special provisions; Evaluation of installations, Preparation of field guide manual. The first year work plan included the initiation of the State-of-the-Art Review. Approximately 68% of the first year work plan was completed during the first year. Thus, the 54 month task is about 32% behind schedule which is a result of problems which occurred in the signing of the first year subcontract with VDOT. However, the proposed second year contract was revised and the project will be back on schedule at the end of the second contract year. It needs to be pointed out that Task 4 being behind schedule will not affect the progress of the other project tasks. The results of the first year research work is primarily based on the response to questionnaires sent to state DOT's, Canadian Provinces, Thruway Authorities, T2 Centers, material suppliers (See Appendix A). The results of the study are based on the outline on rapid repair techniques presented in Appendix B.
