Abstract:	During the summer of 1973 the authors conducted a statewide survey of the present state of the art of the Virginia Department of Highways' erosion and siltation control program. The survey included field observations of erosion and siltation control measures on many highway projects and interviews and discussions with over 50 field personnel actively associated with erosion and siltation control. The notes and observations from this survey formed the basis for 29 recommendations made to the Department through the Research Council's Environmental Research Advisory Committee. The recommendations are presently being implemented.
