Title: Columnar Reinforcement of Soft Ground Beneath Roadway Embankments
Contact: Edward J. Hoppe
Project No.: 73977
Target Date: 06/09/2006
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to improve the current state of the practice for design of columnar reinforcement in soft ground beneath highway embankments. The proposed design approach will apply to stone columns, lime-cement columns, soil-cement columns, jet-grouted columns, drilled shafts, driven piles, and other ground improvement technology that creates a vertical column of strong material in a soft clay. Expected Benefits: Extensive cost savings associated with a more effective design of ground improvement projects for new highways.
