Title: Transportation System Impact of the Opening of Phase 1 of the Silver Line
Project No.: 106440
Target Date: 05/31/2017
Abstract: The overall goal of this project is to determine the impact that the Silver Line has on existing transportation system performance and mode use. Aggregate data on ridership (bus and rail) will allow for the identification of general trends and system-wide changes. Volume changes on roads will be assessed using existing detector and probe data and help inform the identification of congestion points and traffic pattern changes that may require changes in operations. The assessment for I-66, I-495, and 267 will answer the questions (1) how do volumes change, (2) how do speeds change, (3) how do travel times and their reliabilities change? The arterial assessment data will answer the question how do volumes change? These changes will be placed in a spatial context to determine how traffic patterns change with respect to the Silver Line. The outcomes of this effort will not only improve understanding of the impacts and use of this new transit infrastructure, but also allow evaluation of the transit line’s impact on overall mobility.
