Contact: Michael D. Fontaine
Associate Director for Safety, Operations, and Traffic Engineering
Project No.: 85365
Target Date: 11/28/2008
Abstract: The purpose of this project is to apply recently developed stochastic optimization method to an arterial network in Northern Virginia and quantify the benefits via a before and after study.  The scope of this project will be limited to coordinated actuated traffic signalized arterial network in Northern Virginia; however the methodology is applicable to any coordinated actuated signal system.  The primary benefit of the research will be improvements in the operation of the signal system capable of considering stochastic variability.
