Title: Asphalt Materials Characterization in Support of Implementation of the Proposed Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide
Contact: Stacey D. Diefenderfer
Project No.: 78286
Target Date: 02/13/2007
Abstract: The primary objective of this research study is to support implementation of the proposed Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide in Virginia. This objective shall be accomplished through evaluating and compiling asphalt material properties that will be used with the design guide. The compilation of asphaltic material properties shall be accomplished by testing a sampling of 12 HMA mixtures commonly used in Virginia. The data from this study will be used to evaluate the use of the MEPDG and verify the accuracy of predictive equations found in the MEPDG and general literature for characterizing HMA mixes typically used in Virginia.
