Title: Evaluation of Self-Consolidating Concrete in Bulb-T Beams
Contact: H. Celik Ozyildirim
Project No.: 67159
Target Date: 12/05/2008
Abstract: A bridge with Bulb-T beams will be constructed with normal weight SCC. Initially, four test beams similar in cross section to the actual beams in the structure will be prepared, instrumented, and loaded to failure at the FHWA Research center in McLean, Virginia. The beams will have a span length of approximately 40 ft. Two of the beams will have draped strands and the other two will have straight strands unbonded at the ends. They will be tested for transfer, development length, and flexural strength. Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) will be used in the test beams. Based on the results of the test beams, the actual beams will be prepared with SCC. Three of the actual beams will be instrumented for long-term strain evaluation as well as internal temperature monitoring. The beams will be monitored during fabrication, construction and for a period of 3 years after construction.
