Through its Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) program, the Virginia Transportation Research Council provides financial support to as many as a dozen graduate students each year in transportation engineering and related subjects at the University of Virginia.

Students participating in the GRA program pursue their course work leading to a master’s or doctorate degree at U.Va. and conduct their thesis or dissertation research on a topic of interest to VDOT under the supervision of their faculty adviser and/or VTRC staff.

In addition to U.Va.’s highly ranked educational facilities and faculty, the graduate research assistant program provides students the opportunity to gain exposure to the practical problems and techniques of research in a real-world environment.

Interested candidates must be admitted to the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science civil engineering graduate program.
